Are Oldies Necessarily Goodies?

Gearing up for the "Legends" fight card

When the great champs of old still fight long after their prime, what could be the real purpose? Fighters like Roy Jones Jr, Evander Holy Field, and Virgil Hill, who are a little or long past their primes, continue in their career. We fight fans know deep in our gut, they will never recapture that glory they once had in the prime of their career.

It is probable Roy could make some waves again, but his recent three loses (2 by KO), makes me think he should hang up the gloves and enjoy his retirement plan. He deserves it.

James Toney, who is fighting into the heavy weight division, can still pack a punch as well as his lunch. He brings an underdog element to the ring. Toney gives the big guys all that they can handle when he uses that old world style while giving a boxing lesson. If you ever watched a James Toney fight, it's something to behold. Boxing purists would know exactly what I am talking about. Though he will possibly never reach glory trying to beat some of the GIANTS in the HWD, he still brings a feeling of, "Kick his ass, Sea Bass"!

Evander Holyfield has nothing left really. There is no rational, intelligent, wismadic (Not necessarily a word, but still), spiritual, scientific reason he should continue his career. Holyfield NEEDS to hang them up before he becomes truly incomprehensible.

Virgil Hill is definitely a golden oldie. He has given us some good fights in the past, but I think the mortician is readying his tools for service by now. Virgil is WAY past his prime and has nothing left to give us except some good old fight stories.

In any respects, these olden goldies are gearing up for a possible "Legends" card. Let it be, as far as I am concerned, their last card.

These fighters have had a good hand dealt in their prime and the gamble has paid off. You got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, and know when to RUN!!!

As it is, here is an article for your consumption by By Dan Rafael: Jones, Holyfield, Hill could create legends card
