MAYWEATHER!!! The Future of Boxing

By all accounts', you can say that "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather IS the future of boxing. This man's star is shining bright and still rising. Only 28 years or age, he has fought many of the top fighters and held titles in the jr. lightweight div, light weight div, the jr. welterweight div, and welterweight div.

With the most recent win over Zab Judah, Mayweather, undeniably is P4P the best fighter out there. There are a bevy of opponents that Floyd can pick from. Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosely, Antonio Margorito etc.

You can bet Floyd is going to break bank with a De La Hoya fight. I am sure that would be Floyds most logical choice. There is no doubt IMO that Oscar would lose this fight. The closest Oscar has come to losing a boxing match convincingly was against Shane Mosley. Floyd is more rounded, put together fighter than Mosley ever has been. I can't see to many competitive rounds between The Golden Boy and Pretty Boy.

Another note: Floyd would make a lot of dough fighting these big names, but It would be more satisfying to build a resume for Boxing Hall of Fame greatness IMO! He is well on his way for sure.

In the near future, it would be great fun to talk with my son, Joseph, about the golden days of boxing, when there was this great champion who took on all comers, fought every top fighter there was to fight in 5 weight divisions and was also, undefeated! Floyd evokes these feelings from me like a proud father. You can bet Mayweather is history in the making right before our very eyes.

Evidence of Floyds march to $$$ and greatness comes at his most recent buy out of his contract to promoter Bob Arum. Floyd's mind has matured to the degree where wisdom and intelligence is taking place in a talented fighter who is at his peak in all categories: Mind, body and soul! Pretty boy knows at this very moment what is at stake here. To sum it all up in one word, EVERYTHING!

So the most compelling question is this; who can stop Floyd? Who can move that magic #0 in his lose department to a not so pretty #1? Will it be the Golden boy? Shane Mosley? Antonio Margorito? I can't see any real legitimate threat who can dethrone the Pretty Boy! It will be exciting just to see some one TRY!

I see the future, and the future of Boxing is "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather!

DANGER ZONE, DE LA HOYA VS. MAYORGA!

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga

With the onset of this explosive fight, May 6th can't come any sooner! Bad blood is assured as Oscar De La Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga get it on for the 154 pound Jr. Welterweight title!

What is it about Oscar that just gets under the skin of Latino macho men such as Trinidad, Vargas and Mayorga? Yes, there is a common thread with these Oscar opponents who just want to take his head clean off!!! Let us count the ways shall we?

De La Hoya lost an obvious bad decision to Felix Trinidad, though in most observers’ eyes, he won most every round. Then there was Fernando Vargas, who had a grudge against the golden boy to avenge. That fight was much closer and more brutal than the Trinidad fight, but Oscar cashed in with a quick left hook and an 11th round TKO.

Now, there is a more malevolent foe. One who throws punches from China to Alaska. Ricardo Mayorga! There is no real rhyme or reason to his attack, just a killer method to destroy and not necessarily be destroyed! Mayorga is a harden foe, crass in all his ways, certainly the most dangerous foe De La Hoya has faced thus far.

Boxing purists can't deny the bra verity of Oscar’s choice in this opponent. When questioned why this choice of opponent, what ever answer he gives, how can you not believe him? Sure there's money to be made; sure it solidifies his legacy if he happens to WIN this one, but one must think to himself that Oscar may have gone "Loco" to take on such a dangerous adversary in Mayorga.

"This clown sitting to the right of me has disrespected me. You remind me of an old lady past his prime sitting in a rocking chair doing nothing."- Ricardo Mayorga

One question has certainly been answered about Oscar just for taking this fight! He definitely has cohunes. For now, I will wait for the results! It's going to be one hell of a ride! Both for the fan and for Oscar!!!

A Heavy Burden

Is the Heavy Weight Division finally clearing up? Do we have a new fighter emerging once again to take his rightful place atop this crumbling pile of wanna be champions?

It seems, when the smoke clears from the Heavy Weight division, Wladimir Klitscho could be the heir apparent to the throne, but not without some bumps on the road. Can we count his losses to Sanders and Brewster an aberration? Was it his chin or his conditioning that led him to his 2 losses? It seems to me when Wlad was truly pressured and actually hit hard, that he seemed to fold in the Sanders bout. This is also the case of the Brewster fight. I am not saying the man has a IRON chin but more of a mental glass chin.

For instance, with the Samuel Peters bout, when Wlad got hit with them looping shots, it was a struggle for him to figure out what to do next. Though Emmanuel Steward, Klitschos most recent trainer, showed the big guy how to hold on when in doubt, did the thought *Keep Your Hands Up* come to mind? If anything, Wlads defense is suspect. No where do I see him using his shoulders, tucking his chin in, using his gloves to block punches as much as he should. Since Manny has come aboard to train Wlad, I am sure he would make his charge to do more fundamental defense.

As time goes on, I believe that Wladimir Klitscho will improve on his awesome skills and become a dominant champion in the HWD. There are some Heavy Weights out there who could be a threat to Wlad, but if Wlad does everything right with the blessed tools at his exposure, he SHOULD be what has been expected of him by boxing experts all along. The Heavy Weight Heir Apparent!

It is also surprising there are no mentions of the dubious tag "Great White Hope"! Three white champions now take over the majority heavy weight belts. Could this be a sign of real racial acceptance in the US?

Speaking of Which.....

Speaker, McCain duke it out!
By Geoff Earle
Personal grudges between House Republican leaders and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) led to a series of legislative maneuvers in the last days of the session, sources say.

McCain threatened to hold up every piece of legislation in the Senate while House leaders refused to go along with McCain’s pet project of establishing a national boxing commission. The dispute kept the Senate in session past 10 p.m. on its final legislative day, signaling that intraparty squabbles will prevail when Republicans return with a stronger majority next month.

Some Senate aides said lobbying by national boxing figures such as promoter Don King, who has testified before Congress on the issue, explained the intensity of the dispute. But King said he played no...

New Horizons!

With the start of a new year, boxing is coming up over the horizon with more TV fights and better match ups. Thanks to ESPN's new season of boxing shows, 2 days a week, Wednesday and Friday, fighters and fight fans are sure to recieve the benifit. With more fights means more fans; with more fans means more FIGHTS! Top 10 contenders in all weight catagories are looking for more exposure, and with the brand new implementation of ESPN, Web and Fri night fights; Show Times, ShoBox; and HBO's renewed boxing show with top analysts Max Kellerman, Fran Charles and Lennox Lewis to debut April 29th on BAD, Boxing is seeing a true REVIVAL in the sweet science!

Already, top fighters are taking advantage of the TV spotlight and making the most to upgrade their stock in their own respected division. Money is to be made by fighting more often in front of a national audience than opting out just to sit around and wait for a title shot to be laid on the lap of the prize fighters by their weasel promoters.

Contenders are finding out that they can't make as much money waiting for their promoters to get them a good purse bid; instead, by getting their collective asses out there and fighting on TV more greatly appreciates a fighters stock and gives them a better chance to get that BIG MONEY FIGHT! We boxing fans must also realize it's our dollar that pays the bill, so when they give us better fights, we will pay a better dollar to see those fights. It all works in harmony.

I believe we, the fight fans of this generation, will see true reform of our beloved sport with the rise of a good upstart promoters such as Oscar De La Hoya and Benard Hopkins among others. I liken them both to a young Bob Arum and Don King. These 2 great fighters will make a major impact on out great sport. With legislation from Senator John McCain, who is also helping the cause for boxing reform, boxing is coming to the forefront. I say it's about time.

We need change in this great sport of ours and it looks to me like such change is in the works before our very eyes. Besides the current muddle in the heavyweight division, this is a very exciting time to be a boxing fan!

For boxing itself this is the "New Horizon"!
